Application Process

Main Types of Applications
Each Municipality has their own variety of applications, although the application process is relatively the same, the type of requests they have might differ. The main application types are always the same no matter which Municipality you are in.

Approach Requests
There are two types of approaches that can be submitted through ORC. New Approach which is when you are requesting to build a new approach and Utilizing Existing which is when there is already an approach in place that you wish to use for your project. When submitted either of these application types you must have a LSD that details where the approach is being built, or currently is. It is also important to provide all the documentation that details the construction of the new approach so the Municipality can ensure where and how it is being built follows their guidelines.

Pipeline Crossings
There are two types of Pipeline Crossings to choose from, Crossing an Existing Road and Crossing an Undeveloped Road. When submitting a pipeline crossing it is important to ensure you enter the LSD’s correctly as the Municipality needs to know where the crossing will be occurring. The maximum amount of crossings that can be submitted on one application differs between the Municipalities. Some will allow multiple crossings and some only allow one crossing per application.

D56 Notifications
This application type is meant to notify the Municipality of the Prime Contractors intent for future development. The D56 notification generally will provide an automatic approval and some Municipalities will choose to waive the 14 day notice once the application has been approved.

Other Applications
Every Municipality has a slightly different set of applications they allow to be requested within their jurisdiction. The other category can include; Riser Sites, Temporary Work Spaces, Access Roads, Proximity, Road Use, Geophysical/Seismic and more!
